Major Vegetables and Root Crops Quarterly Bulletin, October-December 2017

October 2017 to December 2017

  • In the fourth quarter of 2017, production of peanut slightly increased by 0.2 percent. It went up from 5.12 thousand metric tons in the same quarter of the previous year to 5.13 thousand metric tons this year. This was brought about by the following:
    • additional area planted in Central Visayas (Negros Oriental) due to increasing demand and in SOCCSKSARGEN (Sultan Kudarat) due to sufficient rainfall; and
    • more pods were developed in Zamboanga Peninsula (Zamboanga del Sur) due to sufficient soil moisture.
  • Northern Mindanao, the biggest producer with 1.09 thousand metric tons shared 21.3 percent to total peanut production. The other top producing regions were Ilocos Region and Zamboanga Peninsula with 20.4 percent and 13.9 percent shares, respectively.
