Description of LFS
The employment rate in January 2017 was estimated at 93.4 percent. Four regions, namely, Ilocos Region (91.3%), National Capital Region (NCR) (91.5%), Caraga (91.5%), and CALABARZON (91.8%) had the lowest employment rates (Table 4). The labor force participation rate (LFPR) in January 2017 was estimated at 60.7 percent given the labor force population of 69.4 million. The labor force population consists of the employed and the unemployed 15 years old and over.
The preliminary results of the Annual Labor and Employment Estimates for 2016 based on the average of the four (4) LFS rounds (January, April, July and October) reported an annual labor force participation rate of 63.4 percent out of the 68.1 million population 15 years old and over. This is equivalent to about 43.2 million economically active population comprising either the employed or unemployed persons. The annual employment rate was reported at 94.5 percent and the annual unemployment rate was 5.5 percent. The annual underemployment rate was estimated at 18.3 percent (Table 4).
Of the estimated 68.2 million population 15 years old and over in April 2016, the number of persons who were in the labor force was reported at 43.3 million. This placed the labor force participation rate (LFPR) at 63.5 percent, which means that six in ten of the population aged 15 years and over were either employed or unemployed. The lowest LFPR reported was in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao at 50.6 percent (Table 1).
