2013 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Arts, Entertainment and Recreation with Total Employment of 20 and Over : Preliminary Results

Majority of establishments are engaged in gambling and betting activities

Preliminary results of the 2013 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry showed that a total of 233 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over in the formal sector of the economy were engaged in Arts, Entertainment and Recreation activities. As shown in Figure 1, gambling and betting activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 83 (35.6%). Other amusement and recreation activities ranked second with 63 establishments (27.0%). On the other hand, libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities recorded the lowest number of establishments with 9 establishments (3.9%).

Gambling and betting activities industry dominates Arts, Entertainment and Recreation section

Based on the final results of the 2012 Census of Philippine Business and Industry, there were 3,046 establishments engaged in Arts, Entertainment and Recreation. Gambling and betting activities topped the section with 1,262 establishments or 41.4. This was followed by other amusement and recreation activities with 1,202 establishments (39.5%). Figure 1 shows the percent distribution of establishments by industry group in 2012.

According to the preliminary results of the 2012 Census of the Philippine Business and Industry conducted nationwide, the Philippines had a total of 353 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over engaged in Arts, Entertainment and Recreation. As shown in Figure 1, gambling and betting activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 134 (38.0%). Other amusement and recreation ranked second with 105 (29.7%). On the other hand, libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities recorded the lowest number of establishments with 14 establishments (4.0%). (Table 1)

According to the final results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry, there were a total of 1,861 establishments engaged in Arts, entertainment and recreation. A total of about 89.7 percent or 1,670 establishments had a total employment (TE) of less than 20 while 191 establishments or 10.3 percent had TE of 20 and over.

As shown in Figure 1, other amusement and recreation activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 1,238 (66.5%). Sports activities ranked second with 369 (19.8%). Libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities on the other hand, recorded the lowest number of establishments with only 16 (0.9%).
