The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will host the Seventh Session of the ASEAN Community Statistical System Committee (ACSS7) on 11 to 13 October 2017 and a High Level Forum on ASEAN Statistics on 12 October 2017 at the Conrad Manila Hotel in Pasay City. These events are in support of the celebration of the golden anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The ACSS7 will serve as a venue for the heads of the ASEAN national statistics offices to discuss the ACSS thrusts for 2017-2018, Committee’s work plan for 2018 and 2019, and other emerging statistical development agenda. The session will also be an opportunity for International Organizations and Development Partners to present their current and future programs/activities relevant to the ACSS Agenda.
Meanwhile, the High Level Forum has three objectives: 1) serve as a venue to enhance visibility, credibility, and relevance of the ACSS as “a responsive ASEAN Community Statistical System providing high quality statistics”; 2) deepen stakeholder appreciation of the ACSS response mechanisms to the information requirements of the ASEAN Community, particularly the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and its three community blueprints, the Sustainable Development Goals, and other emerging ASEAN development priorities; and 3) provide a venue to enable multilateral exchanges and discussions on the development and use of ASEAN statistics: its challenges, issues and opportunities.
The ACSS is a partnership between and among the national statistical systems of the ASEAN Member States (AMSs), the ASEAN Community Councils, and the ASEAN Secretariat. The ACSS provides relevant, timely and comparable ASEAN statistics in support of evidence-based policy and decision-making.
Undersecretary Lisa Grace S. Bersales, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General of the PSA will chair the ACSS7. Expected participants to the ACSS7 include the heads of the national statistical offices of the 10 AMSs and key officials from the ASEANstats, development partners, other Philippine government agencies, and PSA officials and staff. In addition, the High Level Forum will be participated by, international organizations, ASEAN statistics stakeholders and the media.
